Three figures from a contemporary dance company that won national acclaim for its inclusive routine featuring disabled dancers on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing are heading to the University of Cumbria. The university’s Institute of the Arts is hosting the AVS Take More Space Dance Lab in Brampton Road, Carlisle over the weekend of 15 and 16 June 2019.

Great Northern Adventure Race kick starts celebrations for final-year students

Third-year students at the University of Cumbria’s Ambleside campus have been celebrating the end of their courses by taking part in a unique Lake District challenge. They joined others from across all year groups at the campus to compete in pairs in the Great Northern Adventure Race. A course weaving its way through iconic landscapes saw students face a host of imposing obstacles – from traversing waterfalls on slack lines to ‘duck diving’ into caves.

They will be in the centre of Ambleside carrying out blood pressure screenings on participating passers-by on World Hypertension Day, Friday 17 May 2019. Hypertension – or high blood pressure – is commonly referred to as the ‘silent killer’ because often the first time a person knows they have it is after they have suffered a heart attack or stroke.
