Due to the unprecedented global challenges concerning the covid-19 virus, we have unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel our Summer University residential events to be held in July 2020.

It is important to emphasise that this decision is not in response to any specific developments at the university but in direct response to the official Government advice and guidance published on Monday 16 March regarding social distancing.

You will appreciate that the health and well-being of our students, staff and visitors must be paramount during these exceptional circumstances and this is not a decision we have taken lightly.

Why not head on over to explore our weekly timetable of virtual sessions designed to help and support you in your journey to higher education? The sessions and booking links can be found by going to our online webinars page

I would definitely recommend this summer university, especially for those who are unsure about whether they want to go to university or about which course they want to study

Tamar Lamb (2017 Summer University Pupil)

It has brought out confidence I didn't know I had. It has made me certain that I certainly wish to study Law and has motivated me to achieve the best grades I possibly can

Jessica Graham (2017 Summer University Pupil)

My Summer university experience was enjoyable, fun and interesting. Before going to the summer university I had no thought about going to university and it was something I had never considered before but I feel like I now have another option to look into after GCSE’s and during A levels.

Sarah Thompson (2017 Summer University Pupil)

My favourite part of the summer university was the academic sessions as these gave a great insight to what would be covered in the course. I have took away a lot of information from these and it has spurred my ambitions further.

Jessica Sproat (2017 Summer University Pupil)

Terms and conditions

Post 16 Summer University UCAS points reduction is subject to the following terms and conditions. These conditions are subject to periodic change, for the most up to date terms and conditions please contact the Outreach Team.

  • An automatic offer at the bottom of the range will be given to students who attend a post 16 summer school at the University of Cumbria. For example: University of Cumbria entry requirements for BSc Hons Applied Psychology are 104 - 120 UCAS points. The standard offer would be at the top of the range, 120 UCAS points. Following attendance and participation at a Post 16 University of Cumbria summer school, an applicant would be made a reduced conditional offer of 104 UCAS points.

Courses not included in the reduction
    BSc (Hons) Midwifery
BSc (Hons) Nursing: Adult, Child, Mental Health and Learning Disability
    BA (Hons) Social Work
    BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography
    BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science
    BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
    BSc (Hons) Physiothreapy
BA (Hons) Primary Education (3-11) with QTS
BA (Hons) Primary Education (5-11): Inclusion with SEND with QTS
  • To receive the reduction in points, it is imperative that the applicant completes all personal details on the application form and on any evaluation forms.

  • This offer can only be applied to University of Cumbria courses at our summer university and cannot be transferred to alternative courses, to the one in which the student attends at the point of the summer univeristy. For example: If a student attends the summer university for Criminology, and submitted an application to the university for our Paramedic Science degree the reduction would not be honoured.

  • The UCAS points reduction will only be applied if the summer school is attended prior to submitting an application for the degree programme through UCAS. Points cannot be redeemed retrospectively if you have already applied for one of the eligible courses at the University.

  • Only one UCAS points deduction offer can be redeemed per course upon application. This UCAS points reduction cannot be applied in conjunction with the masterclass offer for the same degree programme. If an applicant attend the summer school in addition to a masterclass, the applicant would receive an offer based on the greatest reduction in points for the applicant.
